This side event will explore the latest data protection advancements, trends, and challenges in Latin America. Particular attention will be dedicated to new data protection frameworks in the region, challenges for cross border data flows, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on data protection. This debate aims at opening the path to CPDP Latam (www.cpdp.lat), a new Latin American platform to discuss privacy, data protection and technology. CPDP LatAm encompasses the Latin American editions of the Computers, Privacy and Data Protection (CPDP) conference, the MyData conference, and Privacy Law Scholars Conference (PLSC). The 1st Latin American edition of the CPDP conference will be held in July 2021 in Rio de Janeiro, at Fundação Getulio Vargas.

This side event will focus on key issues to be further explored by CPDP LatAm 2021, which will be dedicated to Data Protection in Latin America: Democracy, Innovation and Regulation.
